We are the information source you can trust!

Kansas Cooperative Extension Service

All universities engage in research and teaching. But the nation's more than 100 land-grant colleges and universities have a third critical mission - extension.

"Extension" means "reaching out. "Along with research and teaching, land-grant institutions, "extend" their resources, solving public needs through non-formal, non-credit programs.

Shawnee County, Kansas

As the local branch of Kansas State University Research and Extension (Kansas' land-grant university), the Shawnee County Extension office has access to the latest science, research and technology.

We make the university's expertise available to you and applicable to your local needs. You can trust that the information we provide is

Our Partners

Shawnee County Extension is a unique partnership with not only Kansas State University, but also Shawnee County government, and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Cooperative Extension Service. We have been working together to address local issues since 1917.

Extension programs present useful information related to agriculture, home economics, youth development, family life, business and economics, healthy living, and much more. We take programs to schools, gardens, community centers, and other places.

Our philosophy is to help people help themselves by taking university knowledge to where people live, work, play, develop and lead. We work at being responsive to the needs of the people by focusing our resources on providing quality information, education and problem-solving programs for real concerns.
