Sensory Demonstration Garden

The Shawnee County Extension Master Gardener Demonstration Sensory Garden is intentended to stimulate the senses of visitors with sights, smells, sounds, textures and tastes. Located in Gage Park, this garden serves both the general public as well as students who attend the Civitan Day Camp.

Open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., except during Civitan Camp hours, which are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Fridays the last week in May to the first week in August.

The Sensory Garden was dedicated in Gage Park in September 2011.  The garden, which features plants with different scents and textures designed to stimulate the senses, was funded in part through a grant from the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society.  The garden was built in cooperation with Topeka Parks and Recreation, Keep America Beautiful of Topeka and Shawnee County, and Civitan Club of Topeka.  Shawnee County Extension Master Gardeners assist with the care and maintenance of the garden.
